Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
Week 9 saw our Year 1 students led Mass. We would like to congratulate our students on their wonderful participation and admirable reading skills. They demonstrated reverence, confidence, and respect throughout the celebration.

On Friday, students also enjoyed a team-building incursion where they worked collaboratively through a range of engaging challenges. These activities encouraged communication, problem-solving, resilience, and cooperation while strengthening friendships within our school community.
A reminder that Parent-Teacher Interviews (10 minutes allocated for each student) will be held on Thursday, 25 June 2026. Reports will be released prior to the interviews, allowing families time to read through and reflect on their child's progress. We encourage parents to prepare questions ahead of time to make the most of this valuable opportunity. Some questions you may wish to ask include:
Are there any social or emotional goals we should focus on moving forward?
We look forward to meeting with you and celebrating your child's achievements together.
The Year 1 team.

Religious Education: Next week we are exploring the Parable of the Sower, connecting it to "What we need to grow", before we turn our focus to St Thomas in preparation for St Thomas Day celebrations on Friday.
Writing: Next week we will be reading Zog and the Flying Doctors by Julie Donaldson.
Reading: Next week we will be revising 7.2 and 7.3 sounds that we have learned so far.

Mathematics: Next week we are going to be learning about measurement. Looking at mass, capacity and length
Integrated Curriculum: Next week, students will be creating a map showing all the places Zog travelled to during the story. This learning will also focus on key geography skills, including mapping skills and identifying different features of places, such as built and natural environments.
Social and Emotional Learning: Next week, students will be reflecting on our recent incursion, with a focus on problem-solving, asking for help, and working together as a team. They will share their learning through drawing and writing, and think about what they enjoyed and what they learnt from the experience.
Auslan: We will continue to review signs we learnt during the term.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that you are proud of?

Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Jerusalem Team
