Spotlight on Learning
Galilee Community
Dear Families,
As we approach the end of the term, it has been wonderful to see the incredible growth our Foundation students have made. Over the past few months, they have developed greater confidence, independence, and resilience, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and curiosity. We are so proud of the way they continue to demonstrate our school values of safety, respect, and learning each day, both in the classroom and around the school. Their progress, positive attitudes, and willingness to support one another have made this a rewarding and successful term for all.

Religious Education:
Next week in Religious Education, students will learn about Pentecost and its importance in the Catholic faith. They will explore the story of the Holy Spirit coming to Jesus’ disciples and discuss how this event helped the disciples share Jesus’ message with others. Students will also reflect on their learning throughout the term, revisiting key stories, teachings, and celebrations they have explored.

English:
Next week, we will continue reading 'Stay for Dinner' by Sandhya Parappukkaran. This beautiful story follows a young girl named Reshma as she navigates friendships, family traditions, and cultural differences. Through the sharing of food and experiences, students will explore themes of belonging, inclusion, and respect for different cultures. The story encourages children to celebrate diversity and appreciate the unique traditions that make each family special.
We encourage families to read the book with their child. Please follow the link below.
Phonics:
During explicit phonics instructions, we will focus on double consonant graphemes (two of the same letters that make one sound). Double consonants occur at the end of a word (or syllable) for example, puff, hill, mess.

Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, students will be learning how to fit shapes into different spaces and exploring how shapes can be moved and turned. Students will identify and name circles, triangles, and rectangles, even when they are shown in different orientations. Through hands-on activities and games, children will develop their understanding of shape properties and spatial awareness.

Integrated Curriculum:
Next week, students will be completing their learning about Aboriginal and European foods. They will finish their assessment task, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the different foods eaten by Aboriginal Peoples and European settlers. Students will also take part in activities that encourage them to reflect on their learning and celebrate the knowledge they have gained throughout this unit. We are proud of the curiosity and enthusiasm they have shown as they explored different cultures and ways of life.

Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will be reviewing the signs they have previously learnt.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL):
Next week in SEL, students will explore the difference between big problems and small problems. They will learn that small problems can often be solved independently using calm and safe strategies, while big problems may require support from a trusted adult. Through discussions, role-plays, and everyday examples, students will practise identifying different types of problems, thinking of possible solutions, and recognising when it is important to ask for help. These skills help build resilience, independence, and confidence in managing challenges both at school and beyond.
