School Council Update

Hi there,

Jonno Kendall here from the OGPS School Council. Just sending through a summary of our June 16 meeting to be included in this weeks school newsletter please?

As always the June 16 meeting was an interesting and collegial discussion about what the school does and where it’s headed. Here’s a bit of what we talked about:

  • A new third party advertising policy for the school newsletter. Councillors will consider the policy and discuss it at the next meeting.
  • We are always blown away by the enthusiasm and hard work of the Parents and Friends, the Apple Fair committee and the school community at large to help with fundraising. Do you have a fundraising idea? All you have to do is contact Lara in the OGPS office and run it past her. It doesn’t have to be an event like May Day or the Apple Fair. We love discussing ideas that can raise vital money for our school.
  • Members of the school council have been involved in applying for a grant for money to replace our school toilets. The school council has supported the idea to spend $10,000 of the funds raised at the apple fair on a potential toilet upgrade. We should hear back from the state government about this application by the end of the year so watch this space!
  • We also discussed how other funds raised at the apple fair could be used. There have been a wide range of suggestions. Students have asked for a bike parking upgrade and a mud kitchen, parents have suggested an increase or new specialty programs in the school (music, guest speakers, Auslan incursions). We listen thoroughly to all ideas presented and see how well they fit into our strategic plan. There are a lot of ideas on the table.
  • Mould remediation works will be completed in the library over the holidays.  This means the holiday program will be moved to Drysdale Primary School.
  • We heard reports from the sustainability and inclusion sub committees.
  • We also heard curriculum and facilities reports.
  • We discussed wellbeing programs and how we can measure the impact on students.

Thank you,

JK
