We finished off the term learning how to code using ScratchJR. This is an online program/ APP where students code to create a story. Students learnt how to put in a background, various characters, change the characters colour/design and code them. I was extremely impressed with how well they completed this activity. In the final week we combined all our coding lessons into a rotation of coding games/tasks. This was lots of fun.

In the 3/4 area, students learnt all about Mirco-bits. A Mirco-bit is a small device that you can code to complete a function. As a class, we made a name tag and a flashing icon. They were then given time to navigate and choose two additional items they would like to code. The singing countdown timer was a hit.

In the 5/6 area, students spent the final two weeks exploring and coding Lego Stormchasers. This involved working in a small group to first build and then code it to perform a function like move, spin or turn on and off. This was a challenging yet rewarding task.

Well done to the Grade 4-6 boys who competed at the Interschool Football Carnival in Moama this week. All students should be proud of their efforts and achievements and commended for the teamwork and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day. Thank you to the family and friends who were able to come along to cheer the team on. Thank you also to Dean M who helped coach the team on the day.
Go Locky!

Congratulations to our winners of Milo's raffle. One student from each class was drawn out and presented with their t-shirt prize. A massive thank you to Milo for generously donating the prizes.

This week we welcomed Andy and Larelle from the Bendigo Art Gallery, who came to our school and ran a fantastic art session for the Grade 3-6 students.
Andy and Larelle taught us how to make Cyanotypes, which are a type of photo. First we painted a special chemical solution onto the paper, which turned the paper a light green.

Then we chose some special items and arranged them on the page. After that we placed our pages very carefully under a UV light and waited for the paper to change from the light green colour to a dark bronze.

Once this happened we removed our items and placed our pages into the stop bath. This stopped the developing process and our pages changed from bronze to dark blue (cyan). It was really interesting to see how the places where our items had been were white, while the background changed into a deep blue colour. We then rinsed them in water and placed them on the drying table.

We finished with a gallery walk and a reflection where we were encouraged to look at each other's art. It was wonderful to hear everybody making some really insightful observations and also speaking so positively about all the fantastic artwork we'd created.

Students also made a frame for their cyanotypes and we look forward to displaying these at our Art Exhibition next term!
A big thank you to Andy and Larelle for sharing their knowledge with us and introducing us to something new. We had a great time!
