Physical Education (Katherine/Mrs Simpson)

It has been a busy and exciting term for sport at Miners Rest, with students enjoying a range of opportunities to develop their skills, learn from experts and participate in new experiences.
In May, we welcomed Dom, Zeek, Jye and Cooper from the Western Bulldogs to our school. Students from Foundation to Year 6 participated in one-hour football clinics that focused on inclusion, skill development and fun. Throughout the sessions, students practised fundamental football skills such as handballing and kicking while taking part in a variety of engaging games and activities. The enthusiasm and energy shown by all students made the sessions a great success.
More recently, selected Year 5 and 6 girls had the exciting opportunity to spend time with AFLW players Brit and Jasmyn during a special lunchtime session. Students participated in a thoughtful question-and-answer session, asking insightful questions about life as an AFLW player, training routines and pathways into elite sport. The girls also enjoyed taking part in a range of football skill-based games, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
Our Year 5 and 6 students are also currently halfway through their golf clinic program with Tony Collier. During these one-hour sessions, students have been learning important golf fundamentals, including correct club grip, swing safety and technique. Students have shown great focus and enthusiasm as they continue to develop their skills and confidence in the sport.
Basketball season is also approaching, with tryouts now underway. Our Year 5 and 6 girls have already demonstrated excellent determination, teamwork and skill on the court during their trials. We look forward to seeing our Year 5 and 6 boys showcase their talents when their tryouts commence next week.
