GATE Visual Arts Awards
Applecross Senior High School is celebrating an outstanding year of artistic achievement, with students earning recognition in some of Western Australia's most prestigious youth art awards and exhibitions.
Shaun Tan Award
Special congratulations go to Saavi Kaur (Year 7), whose artwork was shortlisted in the 2026 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists. Saavi's work was selected among the Top 10 entries in her category from hundreds of submissions received across Western Australia, an exceptional achievement for one of our youngest artists.
Saavi's shortlisted artwork will be exhibited at the City of Subiaco Library from Monday 6 July to Sunday 2 August, providing the community with an opportunity to view her outstanding work alongside other exceptional young artists.
St George's Art Awards
Applecross SHS is also proud to have two Year 11 students, Olivia Andrews and Maisie Kidd, represented in the St George's Art Awards.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 18 July to Sunday 26 July at St George's Cathedral, with the official Opening and Awards Night taking place on Thursday 23 July from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.
The exhibition is open daily from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with Sunday opening hours from 12 noon to 4.00pm.
Youth Art Awards
Five talented Year 11 students have also been selected to exhibit in the City of Nedlands Emerge Youth Art Awards. Congratulations to:

- Katie King
The exhibition opens with a celebration on Saturday 25 July from 4.00pm to 6.00pm at the Tresillian Arts Centre, 21 Tyrell Street, Nedlands.
The exhibition will run from 26 July to 21 August, with opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Sunday: 1.00pm to 4.00pm
These achievements showcase the depth of artistic talent within the Applecross SHS Visual Arts program and reflect the dedication, creativity and hard work of our students and staff. We congratulate all students whose work has been selected, shortlisted or submitted for these prestigious exhibitions and wish them every success as their work is showcased across Western Australia.
