Infrastructure Update from your Board and P&C

As Chair of the School Board and President of the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C), we want to provide you with an update on the infrastructure advocacy we have been undertaking on behalf of our school community.

We are pleased to report that our sustained advocacy – with the strong support of Kim Giddens MLA, Member for Bateman – resulted in a $7.9 million commitment from the Cook Labor Government for a new two-storey modular learning hub at Applecross SHS. The hub will include eight classrooms and is expected to be delivered for the 2027 school year. This is a significant and welcome outcome, and we are grateful to all who have contributed to making the case for our school.

Both the Board and P&C are currently seeking confirmation regarding the delivery timeline and readiness of the modular learning hub. We are actively following up to ensure the project remains on track.

While the modular hub addresses our most immediate need, we remain focused on the future. We are concerned, however, that limited planning or development for the medium and longer term has been communicated to us. Our school site is physically constrained. Enrolment growth continues to place pressure on facilities, including our gymnasium, and our swimming pool has been sitting idle for approximately three years. Any new infrastructure must also deliver the support services and amenities – for both staff and students – that a growing school community requires. We have written to Kim Giddens MLA to seek a clear update from the Department on what planning is underway and what the path forward looks like.

Please be assured that your Board and P&C remain active and united. We will continue to advocate for the children in our community – both today and into the future – so that Applecross SHS remains a school our community can be proud of, supported by the excellent teachers and staff who make it so. We will keep you informed as this important matter develops.
