Principal's Message

Dear Applecross SHS Families

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you had an enjoyable school holiday period.

As Term 3 begins, it marks a significant milestone for our Year 12 students as they completed their final first day of a school term in their secondary education this week. It is an exciting and memorable time, with a busy term ahead as students complete course requirements, prepare for examinations, and participate in a range of school activities and celebrations recognising the culmination of their thirteen years of schooling. For our Year 12 families, your ongoing support is invaluable during this important period. We encourage you to continue regular conversations with your child and to monitor their health and wellbeing as they navigate the demands and transitions of their final months at school. We will continue to encourage students to maintain a balanced lifestyle that supports their learning, progress and wellbeing, and our staff remains available to provide additional support to students and families when needed.

Our Visual Arts students continue to be recognised for their outstanding talent, creativity and commitment, with student works selected for display at several prestigious exhibitions:

  • Emerge Youth Arts Awards (City of Nedlands) - five student exhibits
  • Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists (City of Subiaco Library) - one Top 10 student exhibit
  • St George's Cathedral Art Exhibition (St George’s Cathedral) - two student exhibits
  • Young Originals Exhibition (North Metro TAFE) - seven student exhibits

I encourage Applecross SHS families to visit one or more of these exhibitions if you have the opportunity. Congratulations to our talented students, their dedicated teachers and their supportive families on these outstanding achievements.

The school has received confirmation from the Department of Education that the new eight classroom, two-storey modular learning hub remains on schedule. Much of the construction will take place off site, with works at Applecross SHS expected to commence in the middle of Term 4. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing advocacy and support of our School Board and P&C, whose efforts continue to benefit our school community.

The new national emergency warning system, AusAlert, will go live on Monday 27 July at 12.00 pm AWST. To minimise disruption to teaching and learning, students will be asked to switch their mobile phones off or place them on flight mode. This reminder will be communicated to students via Compass and through a school public announcement on the day. I ask for your support by speaking with your child beforehand to ensure their phone is switched off or on flight mode during the school day on Monday. Thank you for your assistance.

Finally, a reminder that applications for Year 7 enrolment in 2027 close on Friday 24 July 2026. Timely enrolments are important as they assist the school with planning for the coming year. If you have a child commencing Year 7 next year, or know families considering Applecross SHS, please encourage them to submit their enrolment application by the closing date.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. I wish all students and families a successful and rewarding Term 3.

Warm regards

Karena
