From the Principal's Desk

Term 1- Week 1

A very warm welcome to the 2024 academic school year. We are so excited for a wonderful year of learning and working with your children and are thrilled with how smoothly the year has already begun.

The students have thrown themselves into tasks and activities and are getting to know their classroom teachers and class mates. Our new Prep students have taken to school like a duck to water and are showing huge amounts of independence and capability which is a testament to the work you have done as parents and families to prepare them for their school year.

This year at Moriac PS, we have welcomed a large number of new staff to leadership and classroom roles and are still to officially appoint a new classroom teacher to 1/2A, however I would like to assure all families that this process is well underway. I would also like to thank Brie White for stepping into that class in the meantime in a fulltime capacity to ensure the Learning to Learn program gets off to a great start for all the students in that class.

As we did last year, we will continue to publish this iNewsletter at least twice a term with updates from all classrooms and learning areas as well as other bits and pieces across the school. Compass will still be our main form of communication, however this year, classes will also be utilising Seesaw as a digital portfolio for all students so that parents and families can stay in touch further with what is happening in classrooms. If you haven't connected yet with your child's class, please do so to enable you to see what is happening in their class. Some classes have not yet sent home invites with QR codes, but will shortly.

We are excited to kick off the year with our family community evening as per my compass post today. Please feel welcome to come for all or part of the afternoon/evening, we look forward to seeing you there.

Please take a look at the following page which has key dates for the term, this is the easiest way for me to keep families updated so taking a screen shot or photo of that page might be helpful as we often forget when things are coming up. It includes all assembly times as well. Our first assembly will be special as we hand out our school leaders badges for the year in an official way.

There is a student free day as we communicated last year that is early in the term unfortunately, as this is specific learning that our new team at MPS needed to be together to learn about and is centred around wellbeing, supporting students with their learning and ensuring our learning program is differentiated to suit all styles of learning. We are really looking forward to this and is scheduled for Friday 9th February.

Finally, you will receive some notifications soon from me about our school council as we are required to hold elections for those people in our school community who may be interested in joining us on council. This is really a fantastic way to have further insight into how our school works and operates as well as have an authentic way of representing the parent community in school based decisions. If you are interested in taking on a role at council, I would be really keen to hear from you. In particular, we will need a new treasurer this year with our previous treasurer relinquishing their role after many years of service. This information will come out shortly.

Have a lovely rest of the week and weekend,

Mel
