Resorative Practices

Restorative Practices

When our students come to school, they often have things on their minds and in their hearts that can be tough to handle. As teachers, we're here to help them work through their thoughts and feelings so they can deal with problems and fully enjoy learning in class. Restorative circles are a great way for us to do that!

It’s been so nice to see students engaging with the restorative circles as the year has begun, as they help to create a safe space where students can talk about their feelings and experiences openly as well as get to know their peers. Additionally, they help to build trust and understanding among classmates and with the teacher. This sense of community ensures that everyone is heard and seen. They are a powerful tool for building positive and inclusive classroom environments.

In our classrooms, circles can occur at any time of day, for many different purposes. They might be for instruction, to address a problem, to check in or to simply continue to strengthen relationships among students and teachers.

Our circles are engaging -where all students are encouraged to listen, speak and think – to engage! They help our students develop their emotional intelligence and build essential social skills, such as active listening, empathy and conflict resolution, which are crucial for their personal and academic growth.
