Assistant Principal News

I hope this message finds you well and settling in to 2024 positively. I’m taking this opportunity to remind you of the continued counselling initiative at school which is useful for all students requiring emotional support.

We are offering one-to-one counselling sessions to students who may require emotional support. These sessions are conducted by Master of Counselling Students from Monash University, who are undergoing supervised training to become qualified counsellors.

Each session lasts for approximately 30 minutes and provides a safe and confidential space for students to express their feelings, thoughts, and concerns. Our aim is to support our students in their emotional well-being and to help them develop healthy coping mechanisms for any challenges they may be facing.

If you believe that your child could benefit from these counselling sessions, please don't hesitate to contact the Assistant Principal, Leisel Ward, for more information and to discuss further details.

We understand that every child is unique and may have different needs, and we want to assure you that we are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure their well-being and academic success.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing our students' holistic development.

This year we will embark upon a fun initiative to cultivate a positive and inclusive school culture, utilising our School House system - Arunyah (red), Coolac (blue), Kambara (green), and Tarmaroo (yellow). Through utilising the House point system, we aim to foster a sense of belonging, teamwork, and healthy competition among our students.

Here's how the House point system works and the merits it brings to our school community:

**1. Encouraging Participation: ** The House point system encourages participation in various school activities, from sports events to academic competitions. By earning points for their respective houses, students are motivated to get involved and contribute to the overall success of their team.

**2. Promoting Sportsmanship: ** Sporting events such as swimming carnivals, athletics events, and cross-country races provide opportunities for students to showcase their talents and demonstrate good sportsmanship. Through friendly competition, students learn the value of teamwork, perseverance, and respect for their peers.

**3. Recognising Positive Behaviour: ** Our dedicated teachers and staff members actively recognize and reward positive behaviour among students. Whether it's acts of kindness, leadership qualities, or academic achievements, students have the chance to earn house points for their exemplary conduct.

**4. Fostering a Sense of Pride: ** Belonging to a house team instils a sense of pride and camaraderie among students. It creates a supportive environment where students can celebrate each other's successes and work together towards common goals.

**5. Building Character: ** Beyond academic excellence, the House point system emphasizes the importance of character development. Students learn valuable life skills such as empathy, resilience, and cooperation, which are essential for success both inside and outside the classroom.

As parents and guardians, your support and encouragement play a crucial role in reinforcing the positive values promoted by the House point system. We encourage you to celebrate your child's achievements, both big and small, and to instil in them the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and kindness.

Throughout the school year, we will keep you updated on your child's involvement in house activities. The House Captains in year six will promote school events and activities for students to be included and for everyone to find a sense of belonging. Together, let's work towards creating a vibrant and inclusive school community where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Points will be tallied each week. We look forward to seeing which house is victorious at the end of Term 1.

Regards,

Leisel Ward
