Celebrate the Year of the Dragon: Lunar New Year Extravaganza in the Library!

Creating Futures Together

Greetings WHSC Community!

Mark your calendars for an unforgettable celebration as we bring the magic of Lunar New Year to our school on Monday, February 12th, 2024, during lunchtime in the Library! This year, we're ringing in the energetic and powerful Year of the Dragon, and we want you to be part of the festivities!

Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a centuries-old celebration that holds immense cultural significance. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and is a time for family reunions, delicious feasts, and the tradition of warding off evil spirits with vibrant decorations and lively activities.

We invite all students and staff to partake in the festivities as we transform our library into a hub of cultural exploration and joy. Here's a glimpse of the exciting activities planned:

1. Lantern Making and Dragon Crafts: Unleash your creativity by crafting traditional Chinese lanterns and vibrant paper dragons. These crafts symbolize prosperity, good luck, and the spirit of the dragon.

2. Chinese Calligraphy: Immerse yourself in the art of Chinese calligraphy, a revered form of expression that combines brushstrokes, ink, and tradition. Learn to write auspicious phrases and your name in beautiful Chinese characters.

3. Chopstick Competitions: Test your dexterity and precision in our chopstick competitions! Challenge your friends or see how quickly you can master the art of eating with chopsticks.

4. Ti Jian Zi - Kicking Weighed Shuttlecock: Engage in a friendly competition of Ti Jian Zi, a traditional Chinese sport that involves kicking a weighted shuttlecock with your feet.

We hope to see you on Monday, February 12th, in the library at lunchtime for an afternoon filled with joy and the spirit of the dragon!

Wishing you all a prosperous and harmonious Year of the Dragon!
