MELTON COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
On the 9th of November, we took our students to attend Melton City Council’s Community Achievement Awards celebration at the Witchmount Estate. Hosted by the CEO, Roslyn Wai, it was well attended by Mayor Cr Kathy Majdlik, local councillors and the Melton MP, Steve Mcghie.
Alumni Ornella Niyonzima and Daphrose Tuyisabe were also present. Ornella having won the category “Intercultural Engagement Leader” in 2022, joined her friend Daphrose, winner for 2023, to present the trophy for the 2024 winner.
Current nominees included Avneek Sandhu for Intercultural Engagement Leader, and Georgia Tietze and Taisha Oetomo for Young Citizens. Mollie Van Der Linden was nominated for and won the Young Citizen award.
Mollie has been involved with Specialist Hoops Basketball for over four years, and has an aptitude for helping others, whether coaching supporting with tournaments or school holiday programs, or as part of the Student Leadership Team at her school. Mollie has shown dedication and compassion in working with people living with disabilities and has encouraged community involvement through her persistent attendance and drive to support others.
“We enjoyed a great evening around both past and current students. It was good to see our students amongst the award winners and having them recognized on a bigger stage for things they do here in the local community and the school. “
