Extended Investigation - CHES

The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES), specialises in Extended Investigation which enables students to undertake extensive research in an area of interest and provides a strong foundation for future university studies. Last year, Ayesha G (now in Year 12) completed this subject and shares her journey below. Well done, Ayesha!

This afternoon I completed my final assessment, the 3/4 oral exam, where I presented my year’s worth of work on coastal erosion and management at Bayside beaches. It’s been a very busy couple of months, with my 4,000 word report submitted back in September, and the Critical Thinking test in late August. But despite these deadlines, it hasn’t even felt like work. Truly, the subject has been so unique in allowing me to pursue my passions, of my own timeline and accord.

The independent nature of CHES and this subject has prepared me with what I feel will be very relevant and beneficial for my eventual university experience.

I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to study at CHES, and thankful for my teachers there, as well as the facilitators here, particularly Ms Jarvis, who supported my journey. I’ve learnt so much through this subject, even more than I expected to. I’ve made friendships with like-minded people, whom despite their distance, will remain firm friends for years to come.

I’m excited and hopeful at the prospect of more Beaumaris students studying at CHES next year, I think it’s an incredible experience and an amazing partnership for our school to build upon.
