Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
This Term, the Preps have been working hard during their English unit exploring different stories. This week we explored Goldilocks and the Three Bears. On Friday, we celebrated the student’s diligent participation in the unit with a fun community event, our Teddy Bear Picnic! It was wonderful to see the students and their families spending in the sunshine joined by the student’s favourite teddy bears, who joined us on Level 5 for a day of learning. Thank you to all who were able to come along and create a positive and supportive environment for all students.
This term our Grade One students have been having a wonderful time attending the school library. Every Tuesday our students visit the library to read and borrow new books. Our students have demonstrated a great understanding of the library expectations.
This week, the Year 2 students have been busy sharpening their knives and “claws” in the kitchen! They had lots of fun on Tuesday with our Chewsday In-Visit. The Year 2 students were learning to safely use a child-safe knife with the claw technique to slice and dice various food items. Students used the claw technique to firmly hold down their ingredients while cutting them carefully to prepare various delicacies to go into their stomach. The refreshing smell of cucumber, scones and tortilla chips wafted through the air as students worked diligently on leveling up their chopping and mixing skills. Soon, we may see these junior master chefs preparing their own lunchboxes at home!
We are so impressed with our incredible Year 3 students who completed their first ever NAPLAN tests with determination, courage and focus. Throughout every moment they displayed Big 10 Number 9 - Try hard all the time even when it is challenging. The students should feel so proud of their dedication to preparing for and giving their best on each test. Amazing work, Year 3! We celebrated how proud we are of them and how proud they should be of themselves with extra play time in the sun.
Year 3 students also enjoyed an in-visit called 'Democracy, Community and Me' this week where they voted in a mock election. They role played an election for the local government and learnt about how local rules and laws are made for the community. What an exciting couple of weeks!
What an incredible term it has been in Grade 4! We are almost finished our second class novel for the term, ‘Charlotte’s Web,’ and it has been fantastic to see the students engaging with the story, characters and even the archaic vocabulary! This week, the Grade 4s were exploring character traits and learning how understanding a character’s traits can help us to further comprehend a book and a character’s feelings and choices. Check out some of our webs of traits about the characters Wilbur, Templeton and Fern!
Our Year 5 students have made quite the start to their academic year. We have had a jam-packed term which included the following: visiting the South Melbourne Market, attending the First Aid and Sex Education Australia courses, participating in the Tee-Ball Gala Day, completing NAPLAN and much more! In addition to this, the students are in the final stages of preparing for their very own, Year 5 South Melbourne Primary School Market next Tuesday.
The Year 5 teachers can't wait to see what Term 2 brings! Take a look at some of the pictures below that were highlights from Term 1:
In Year 6, our students have been engaging in meaningful reflections on their term, demonstrating a remarkable sense of self-awareness and drive for improvement. As we wrap up our activities, we find ourselves surrounded by driven children who understand the value of introspection and recognising their strengths. Currently, our focus lies on crafting a comprehensive book report on "The Wizard of Oz." Having learned the intricacies of structuring multiple paragraphs, we are now in the midst of drafting and editing our work. Emphasising the notion that perfection is elusive, but progress is achievable, we are instilling the importance of continuous improvement. With their dedication and determination, we are confident that they will excel not only in the remainder of this term but also in the challenges that lie ahead in term two. Well done team, we are so proud of you.
