Devotion

This morning, we welcomed a number of new children to St Paul, and we will be welcoming more next week when our Reception children begin! Our other children are returning after a long break from school. Some nervously, some reluctantly, some calmly, and some with great excitement!

There is always a reason for why children (and adults) feel the way they do in a given situation. Whatever their circumstance, we want children to feel loved and cared for at St Paul.

This morning, I saw parents and caregivers welcoming one another, welcoming new staff, and getting hello hugs from children in other families after holiday absences. I saw staff supporting nervous children, and celebrating their return, and I saw children greeting one another excitedly and sharing games and resources with children who were a little quieter. The feeling of welcome and the joy of return was very real.

As a Lutheran School, we exist to support, learn with, and welcome all children and families. Thank you for being part of our community!

‘(The kingdom) has been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.’

And they will ask, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me – you did it to me.’

Matthew 26:36-40 (MSG)
