Mandarin Language Program

Dear BEPS Communities,

Welcome to Term 1, 2024. I extend a warm welcome to both new and returning families to the Mandarin Language Program, providing an enriching and immersive experience for your child/ren. Your child/ren will have a 50-minute Mandarin class with me each week throughout the year, fostering language acquisition and cultural appreciation.

We will kick off our program by celebrating Lunar New Year this week, enhancing the Mandarin learning experience. These initiatives aim to create an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere within the school community.

This term, our students will explore the concept of 'Healthy Communities', encompassing physical, mental and social well-being. Through interactive and hands-on activities, our goal is to instill a holistic understanding of what contributes to a thriving and vibrant community.

The 'Healthy Communities' inquiry will seamlessly integrate with the Mandarin Language Program, offering students the opportunity to explore health-related vocabulary and cultural perspectives on well-being. This interdisciplinary approach fosters a comprehensive and interconnected learning experience.

I invite parents to actively participate in this inquiry journey by engaging in discussions with your child/ren, sharing insights about community well-being, and encouraging healthy habits at home. Look out for resources and communication that will facilitate these conversations.

To our new families, welcome again to BEPS! I am April White (yea.white@education.vic.gov.au), the Mandarin Teacher at BEPS. You can usually find me around the yard before and after school. Feel free to catch up with me and I will provide you with insights into our Mandarin program and address any queries you may have.

I look forward to an incredible Term 1 filled with linguistic discoveries, cultural celebrations, and shared learning experiences.

Warm regards,

April White
