Commencement and Installation Services

The academic year has commenced and we are now in our second week of learning. The ritual of commencement is something that as a Lutheran college and community we uphold as important to students, staff and parents.

Last week, we acknowledged the new year with two commencement services - Primary and Secondary. Starting the school year in worship allows our community to focus on what we are and why we are here. We are a Lutheran school, where all who come are welcomed and valued. An important part of our services this year included the installation of new staff and student leaders. An installation in the Lutheran tradition acknowledges that all who take on roles within our school, whether they be staff or students, do so as a call to service, sharing their God-given gifts and talents with others.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those involved in the planning of the services for making this such a special and significant time for our students and staff. As a new member of the Good News community, I was humbled to witness the support and encouragement given to peers and new staff during these services.

Car Park Safety

The safety of our students at Good News is at all times a high priority. Our College car parks are very busy places each morning and afternoon. With the support of everyone who enters the car park, we can provide a smooth and safe start and finish to the day for our students. I would ask that as the year commences families display an extra measure of kindness and patience to all. Our staff, in particular, have a very important job to do in ensuring students are safe. Your assistance in adhering to the directions of staff is expected and greatly appreciated so that we can keep our students safe.

Parent Information Evenings

The Primary and Secondary Parent Information Evenings for the Tarneit campus have been a great success this week. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of staff in preparing for these sessions. Providing an opportunity for parents to engage and partner with the staff is such an important part of what we do here at Good News. We hope that those who attended have gained some valuable insight into the educational experiences planned throughout the year.

Emergency Evacuation Drill

To ensure GNLC students and staff are safe in the case of an emergency, we will arrange ‘practice drills’ for both evacuation and lockdown procedures this term. We will also test the communication system during these practice drills where an SMS message will be sent to parent mobile phones. This message will come from and be identified as ‘GoodNews’ and will have a short message outlining each drill or situation. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact schoolboxhelp@goodnews.vic.edu.au
