YEAR 12
Year 12 Food Technology students have dived straight into their studies and carried out a hands-on experiment which will help them understand and remember the process of mechanical and chemical digestion and the absorption of nutrients in the human (mammalian) digestive system.
They began with actual food items and through a step-by-step process, and simulating each part of the digestive system, ended with a paste closely resembling faecal matter. Due to the high “gross” factor, this practical activity was a hit with students and is guaranteed to be very memorable.
