It's been a busy fortnight here at Ceres. Last week we celebrated Book Week with fun activities in classrooms, an illustrator visit and an absolute bumper Book Week Parade! We saw so many amazing character costumes from our students and staff. Thanks to the parents and community for joining us. Our Grade 5/6s participated in their Basketball Day, there was a Cultural Studies incursion, and F/1s and 5/6s travelled to Melbourne for an MCG tour. Tim and I also attended a Network meeting where we learnt about new Wellbeing initiatives and Victoria's new approach to teaching Reading in F-2.
Tim is now on Long Service Leave, enjoying some time off with his family. We hope he has a wonderful trip and look forward to seeing him when he returns. He will return to Ceres into Term 4, which is great news.
Next term, there will be two Pupil Free Days in Week 5 (see below for dates). As there is a new English Curriculum due to be implemented in 2025 as well as a new teaching approach for Reading, teachers will need time to unpack and understand these new changes in order to hit the ground running in 2025.
We have reached out to Kelly Club to see if they will be able to offer a session on either of these days. We will let parents know if this is an option as soon as we hear back. As usual, the sessions will only run if there are sufficient numbers.
Pupil Free Days:
Monday, November 4th- Report Writing
Tuesday, November 5th- Literacy 2.0 Unpacking
We may be in the thick of 2024 but, in terms of school planning, we already have one foot firmly in 2025.
To assist our planning we ask that if your family is moving out of our area or your child will be attending another school in 2025, please contact the office and let us know as soon as possible to allow us enough time to effectively plan and manage our enrolments. Thank you.
Saturday, May 3rd 11am-2pm for our community event to commemorate our school's special milestone.
More details will be elaborated on as the planning committee works its way through all of our ideas. Excitement is certainly starting to build.
As we are entering September and heading into the warmer weather, all students must wear a broad brimmed hat during recess and lunch from the beginning of September to the end of April or whenever UV levels reach 3.
Students without a hat will be required to play in a shaded area.
School hats are available for purchase from our uniform provider Beleza for $15. School hats with a broad brim meet all DET and sunsafe requirements, baseball hats do not.
Students will be actively encouraged to apply a broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen (SPF30+) at home before coming to school which their parents or guardians provide.
Please read our Sunsmart Policy attached below for further information.
Reminder: Our student led Assembly is on today at 2:30 pm.
Our assembly is an important part of our school. It is an opportunity to proactively reinforce our school culture and expectations through the acknowledgement and celebration of our students and school.
Have a great fortnight.
