Prep News

Term 3, Week 8

What we've been up to in Prep!

Over the last few weeks in Maths, we have been learning about Addition. We have solved addition problems using counters and tens frames, and we have played lots of addition games to apply our understandings.

Upcoming Dates

Monday 9th September- Footy Colours Day

Friday 13th September - Ballarat Wildlife Park Excursion

Tuesday 17th September- Whole School Reward Day

Volunteers Wanted for Ballarat Wildlife Park

As you know the Prep’s will be heading to the Ballarat Wildlife Park on Friday 13th September (next Friday). Thank you to everyone for being prompt in providing permission/payment via Compass, is it very much appreciated.

We apologise for the late notice but we require 3 parent volunteers, one from each class, to support our ratios.

If you are able to be a parent volunteer please email Miss Floyd (madison.floyd@education.vic.gov.au) by Monday 9th September. If we receive more parent volunteers than are required, Mr Trezise and Mr Parkes will draw names out of a hat. This has been done on previous excursions across the school in the interest of transparency and fairness to all. Volunteers will be notified on Monday afternoon and will require a Working with Children’s Check which needs to be provided to Sonia or Wendy at the office prior to departure. Parent volunteers will be supporting staff to assist the students, therefore toddlers will be unable to come (if this is a factor for you).

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Teach Your Monster to Read

We have been informed that the Teach Your Monster to Read app is free for one week from Wednesday Sept 4th until Wednesday Sept 11th.

This is an app that we have found to be beneficial in assisting with the learning of phonics. It is a game based app, and should not replace Home Reading which is vital to your child’s literacy development, but it is a fun way for them to practise what they have learnt at school!

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In the upcoming fortnight, we will learn about the sounds that /th/ and /ng/ make. Our story of the week in week 9 will be Edward the Emu and in week 10 it will be The Singing Mermaid. We will be revising the Heart Words we have learnt so far this term.

In Mathematics, we will be learning about days of the week, months of the year, and things that we do each day. Then we will continue our learning about sharing groups of objects.

In Topic next week we will be learning about Birds and Marine Life.

In Respectful Relationships, we will continue to learn about Help Seeking by discussing how we can ask for help.
