Auslan News

Grade Preps completed their topic on Family by creating a papercraft Family House to take home and sign with their families. Hopefully your child/ren were able to have-a-go at signing and taught you some family member signs in Auslan.😊 Grade Preps will begin their final topic for Term 3 this week, learning signs for school, including: Principal Trezise, Assistant Principal Parkes, teacher, students, school, class, bell, wash hands, canteen, time, play time, lunch time, finished, line up.

Grade 1-2s have continued with their topic on Transport & Travel. Students have been creating sentences in Auslan for their peers to interpret, combining their knowledge of signs for People and Transport to explain how people travel to school, work, sports and holidays. They have also enjoyed practising their signs in a Transport boardgame. It has been so nice to move around the room and see the students signing the different modes of transport as they land on the different transport pictures in the game!

The Grade 3-4 students have continued with their topic on Food & Meal Times. They have been working on their Learning Tasks for this term, choosing a family meal time to sign, learning the food and drink signs for their chosen meal and preparing to record themselves signing. It has been interesting learning a lot of different food and drink signs with the Grade 3-4s and they have been working hard to learn their chosen signs. Students are encouraged to practise their chosen signs at home this week to complete their Learning Tasks next week.

Grade 5-6s have continued with their topic on People. They have been combining their knowledge of the signs for People with signs for describing people to create a character profile to sign for the class as a 'Guess Who?' The Grade 5-6 students have been doing a wonderful job trying to interpret their peer’s signs to work out who their chosen character/person is. They will be signing descriptions of people this week for their friend to interpret and draw, before starting a new topic on Occupations.

Choir Rehearsal with BSE

Last Friday, a very talented team of student musicians and singers from Bendigo South East Secondary College's ACA program, visited the SGPS choir to practice for the upcoming Big Sing event.

BSE singers led the rehearsal, beginning with a fun warm up activity and then took us through our song "Try Everything" that we'll singing on the day. The BSE band accompanied us, too. They sounded incredible!

Details for the Big Sing choir excursion to BSE will be pushed out on Compass soon. It will be taking place on Wednesday 18th September. Parent approval will be required on compass to attend and there will be no cost to families involved.
