CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning about synthesising new information in fiction and non-fiction texts.

VOCABULARY

Synthesise: A reader's ongoing, ever-changing understanding of a text. Students take their prior knowledge and put it together with new knowledge to re-evaluate their thinking.

Prior Knowledge: The information a new learner already has about a topic before they learn new information.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Using a text you have at home, record your thinking using the following sentence stems before, during and after reading.

At first, I was thinking….

As I was reading, I thought…

In the end I was thinking….

Use your synthesis to evaluate how your thinking changed as you read.
