Following on from our Kaboom Percussion incursion, students have been working on creating their own rhythms and sounds in class with percussion and tuned instruments. They are working in groups to collaborate, listen, compromise and support each other with any performance nerves.
I've been so impressed with Grade 5 and 6 students as they learn to 'decode' musical notes on a staff and learn/create their own rhymes to remember treble clef notes:
Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit
Every Good Boy Deserves Football
Every Gamer Boy Deserves Fortnight
Every Green Bus Drives Fast
This week they had a go at making a little jingle using letters from words they read on a treble staff - eg CAB, BADGE, AGE, BEE etc. So much variety from the same words!
Grade 4s have been 'jammin' together with drum sticks and bucket drums. We then had our first lesson with a recorder. We found out breathing into the mouthpiece at a gentle consistent pace makes the best sound ;) It takes some practise. Eye of the Tiger will be our first song to learn next lesson!
We made the most of the beautiful weather and headed outside for some of the lessons. Grade 2 and 3 work included 'found' sounds from classroom and playground equipment to incorporate into their cup routines.
Prep and Grade 1 students will start making their recycled instruments next week. Please keep sending in bottles, lids, cardboard rolls and tins etc. Collection boxes are in Prep/Grade 1 area and the theatre.
Gavin Andrew continues to facilitate The Wizard of Oz Yr 3-6 ACPS students in their rehearsals with Warrandyte High School.
