Grades 3 and 4
The students have continued to enjoy the Olympics. Green and Gold day was a highlight for last week when the students got to complete a variety of sports, like tennis, Olympic tag, basketball and the varied Bean bag challenges. They then got to make the Olympic rings and have a dance off on the oval. We had some much awaited for sunshine to enhance the activities.
In class the students have begun to dive deeper and find out more about the different countries that are competing in this years games.
Each student has chosen a country to follow. They are recording the number of medals won and for what sport. They are also researching facts about the country of choice. This includes what the flag looks like, famous landmarks, famous people, the language spoken, how long it takes to get there and any specific traditions that they have.
In literacy we have been reading about the Olympics and comparing the similarities and differences between the Ancient Greek Games and the Modern Olympics. While in maths we have been having a big focus on learning our times tables. The grade 3's are working on mastering their 2, 3,4, 5 and 10 times tables and the Grade 4's are working on their 6, 7, 8 and 9's. The students have made flash cards, learnt songs, challenged themselves and sometimes race against others. We are moving onto division next week and understanding that it is an inverse operation of multiplication.
Then of course the students had an amazing day at the School Athletics. The students all got the opportunity to run, jump, hurdle, throw and have a great day. It was so lovely to hear our amazing students encourage each other as they competed in all the events.
