PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Lindy Burke

In our last two newsletters, we’ve delved into the importance of our School PAL Values: Respect and Resilience. This week, we turn our focus to another crucial value—Responsibility. Understanding and embracing responsibility helps students take ownership of their actions, make thoughtful decisions, and contribute positively to their community. Here’s a glimpse into how we’re exploring this value at school:

What Does Responsibility Mean?

Responsibility involves doing what you are expected to do and being accountable for your actions. It includes arriving on time, completing tasks, and taking care of your belongings. Additionally, it means being reliable and trustworthy, whether you’re working on a group project or lending a helping hand to a friend.

How We’re Emphasizing Responsibility

  1. Classroom Activities: Teachers are weaving lessons on responsibility into their daily routines. Students are learning how to set goals, manage their time effectively, and collaborate as a team. These activities highlight the importance of keeping promises and following through on commitments.
  2. Role Models: We are sharing stories of responsible individuals—both historical figures and contemporary role models—who have made significant contributions through their accountability and dependability. These examples serve as powerful inspirations, demonstrating how responsibility can lead to success and positive change.
  3. Student Responsibilities: Each classroom has a “Responsibility Chart” where students take on various roles and duties, such as organizing classroom materials and assisting with daily tasks. This hands-on approach helps students appreciate the impact of their contributions and understand the importance of being reliable.
  4. Parent Involvement: We encourage parents to reinforce the value of responsibility at home. Discussing daily responsibilities, like completing chores or managing homework, can strengthen the lessons learned at school. Sharing personal experiences and setting a good example can make these discussions more meaningful.

Celebrating Responsibility

We continually celebrate our students’ efforts and achievements with a weekly assembly. Students who exhibit outstanding responsibility are rewarded with PAL tickets, which they can bank and redeem for various rewards. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting my first “Afternoon Tea with the Principal” for 2024. Six students, who had redeemed their tickets, joined me for a delightful High Tea filled with treats, cakes, and juice. It was a joy to spend time with some of our fantastic students and celebrate their accomplishments.

Exciting News!

Speaking of celebrations, a huge congratulations is in order for our girls' soccer team! They travelled to Swan Hill with Mr. Holmfield to represent Echuca at the Regional sporting event. Not only did they embody all of our school values, but they also played exceptionally well, coming home as winners! Their dedication and teamwork truly shone, and we couldn’t be prouder.
