Canberra Excursion

Day 1 & 2 - Friday 9 & Saturday 10 August

We departed Tenterfield for Dubbo. Accommodation was the Western Plains Zoo & included an evening & morning walking tour through the zoo.

Day 3 - Sunday 11 August

The day started with a visit to the Australian Institute of Sport followed by a lovely lunch at the Botanical Gardens. The next visit was to the Australian War Memorial where we were invited to place a wreath during the ceremony. This was a very special opportunity for the students at THS. The day ended with students trying indoor rock climbing.

Day 4 - Monday 12 August

A visit to Parliament House where we undertook a tour and had a visit from our local member, Barnaby Joyce. After lunch students visited Questacon and the National Dinosaur Museum.

Day 5 - Tuesday 13 August

Visit to the National Electoral Education Centre where we learned about the voting process. After this we had a tour of the University of Canberra and the Australian National University, followed by orienteering at the National Arboretum. We concluded the day with Tenpin bowling and Timezone.

Day 6 - Wednesday 14 August

A visit to Perisher

Day 7 - Thursday 15 August

National portrait gallery visits, High Court of Australia & tour of the Geo Science Australia complex.

Day 8 - Friday 16 August

We had a visit to the radio telescope at Parkes and a talk from one of the local astronomers about the formation of stars and the role of the telescope worldwide.
