From the Classroom

Grade 5/6H

Welcome to Week 7!

Term 3 has been another busy and action-packed term.

Last week we celebrated Book Week for 2024. It was fantastic to see everyone using their creativity to dress up and represent their favourite book characters.  Book Week also provides us with another opportunity to acknowledge how important reading is for all of us.

Some of the many benefits of reading include:

Reduces stress and helps you relax. ...

Improves your concentration and memory. ...

Vocabulary expansion and strengthens your writing abilities. ...

Enhances your knowledge. ...

Increases your imagination and creativity.

On Wednesday afternoons this term 5/6H have been spending time with the Foundies.  These sessions are focused on literacy and participating in activities to promote the enjoyment of reading and writing.  The 5/6’s are thoroughly enjoying this opportunity to engage in peer learning, it is a highlight of our week.

Last week we had our second workshop with the team from ASPA (Australian School of Performing Arts) to assist us in preparing our performance for the Sandhurst Arts on Show.  Our singing and dancing are on point, and we are looking forward to showcasing these on the 4th of September.

Our writing focus in literacy this term is on persuasive writing. We have been very busy researching our writing topics and revisiting the text structure and features of persuasive writing.  Our reading this term has centered around our class novel, which complements our Inquiry and RE units.  We have been working on connecting to self, text and the world and enhancing our skills in analysing, examining and summarising.

Home revision for term 3 and 4 is self-directed.  Students were given a grid of activities to choose from and can select what they want to complete.  Home revision remains optional for all students, however, those who elect to complete tasks will be rewarded with Dojo points for each task they complete.
