Cultural Understanding

During NAIDOC week earlier this term, students were tasked with decorating a paper feather. They did this using earthy colours and beautiful patterns. Putting all of these feathers together we created an artwork of Wadawurrung Country’s Creator Spirit, Bunjil the Eagle. Our school is proud of the country we live, learn and work on and we enjoyed celebrating it with every child contributing to this special project.

The Wadawurrung people believe Bunjil created all of Country: the yaluk’s (waterways), the war bulloc (plains), the winmaling (wind), the wiyn (fire), everything! The students asked many questions about Bunjil and looked at artworks to help them design their own art. Now we just need to find a home for this accomplished work.
