Rotary Four Way Test Speech Final

Year 10 student Catherine Garbriel will represent St Norbert College and Rotary Club of Ascot at the State Final of the Rotary Four Way Speech Test Contest on Thursday, 5 September during a dinner at ANZAC House.

Her speech, ‘What Our Schools are Failing to Teach Us’ won 1st Place at the Perth Metro 2 Semi-Final on Wednesday evening. The event was held at the WACA Boundary Room and attended by English Staff Miss Leddy and Mrs Markich, Catherine’s mother and Rotary Club of Ascot President Jodie Sparks.

Pitted against four other students from various government and independent schools, Catherine delivered her six-minute speech which encompassed the four values of the 4-Way Test:

  • Is it the TRUTH?
  • Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Rotary Four Way Test supports the English curriculum in speaking and listening, and is an opportunity for teachers to develop student skills in public speaking and creative writing. The Rotary Four Way Test is a world-wide set of ethics and values that can be applied to everyday life.

We look forward to hearing Catherine’s Grand Final performance and wish her the best of luck.
