Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Parents,

Just a reminder that we have our camp coming up next week in Week 6, 6A, 6C and 6E leave Monday morning and return Tuesday night. 6B and 6D leave Tuesday morning and return Wednesday night. Please ensure when you are packing to take the forecasted weather into consideration. Just a reminder, all students will need healthy packed snacks and lunch for the first day.

Here's a recap of what we covered in each subject this week:

Mathematics:

This week students continued their learning on decimals in particular adding and subtracting. They had their final Olympic style mathematics games session and were able to reflect on their learning from this event. These games are designed to showcase the skills and knowledge that students have developed around fractions.

English:

Students continued to read "Once" by Morris Gleitzman. It is a compelling novel that follows the journey of Felix, a young Jewish boy in Nazi-occupied Poland, as he searches for his parents. Through Felix's eyes, the story portrays the horrors of war while highlighting the resilience and hope of a child's spirit. Students continued to work on their information report on Poland where they drafted and edited the final body and concluding paragraph.

How can you support this at home?

  • Encourage your child to complete the homework task that is related to the book ‘Once’.

Religious Education:

This week students learnt about the Assumption of Mary as they celebrated her feast day on Thursday.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:

Students continued to discuss gender norms this week with our main focus being on human rights. The students were split into groups and were provided with topic cards such as "Household expectations, Work and Business, Clothes" etc. Each group were asked to identify gender norms for each of these roles. Student then had an opportunity to discuss what they had learned with the class and the impact that these conventions have had on society.
