Year Five - Spotlight on Learning

 Dear Families,

What a wonderful week we have had of learning. The students are finishing off reading the class novel Tom Appleby - Convict Boy. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the convicts and their early life in Australia. It's worth a read for parents if you get the chance!

This week is BOOK WEEK and we are looking forward to our dress up on Friday!!

This weeks learning;

Mathematics:  Students will looking at data in various forms related to the Paralympics.

English: Book Week activities. Students will be reading a selection of the Short Listed books and delving into the amazing stories. Which one will win the award? The students next class novel will begin in Week 7. We start reading Kensuke's Kingdom by the same author as our Term 1 novel War Horse.

Religious Education:  Children will be having a Guest Speaker from this year’s Confirmation Candidates to discuss how we are enabled to live out our faith in action.

SEL:  Students will be describing the kinds of gender-based violence boys and girls may witness, experience or perpetrate, in and around the school such as hair pulling, name calling and exclusion. The aim is to support students in understanding how this happens and what they can do to help themselves and others. Students will talk about the types of gender-based violence that boys and girls might see, experience, or do at school. The goal is to help students understand why this happens and how they can support themselves and others.

Integrated Studies: Students will begin to explore how to make music with their voice but with no singing. They will be exposed to 'beatboxing' and how it is used to create music.

Auslan:  Students will be learning the following signs;

Today is hot.
I know. I wonder if tomorrow will be hot. Do you know?
