From the Principal Team

Natalie Shanahan, Sam Fleming, Claire Johnston

Welcome to this week's newsletter. What a topsy-turvy start to Spring we've seen weather-wise, however neither rain, hail nor wind has stopped us from being busy Banyulians!

Building Update:

All things going to plan, our builders anticipate us needing to move out of the old building (currently home to some Year 2 and 4 classes) before it is demolished over the school holiday period.  As such, we are calling for volunteers to help move furniture and boxes on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th of September. If you are able to spare a couple of hours in the morning on either of those days could you please fill in the form below. Volunteers can meet us at the main office at 9.15am on those days.

Landscaping Update:

As you will remember reading in previous newsletters, our building project went out to tender with a budget to cover a basic landscaping scheme. The basic plan includes way-finding paths, laying of a natural turf surface and some garden bed planting. Our school community would very much love to add some play equipment to this basic landscaping scheme for our children to enjoy. In 2023 a fundraising goal of $100,000 was set by the community for our school contribution to the playground equipment.

Our Community Engagement Committee have been kicking some fundraising goals this term. Children and adults alike have enjoyed some great school community events with some awesome fundraising efforts along the way.  This term we have managed to add $7538 to our playground fund. Wow! Thank you one and all for your efforts, big and small, to contribute to this.  It is so wonderful to have a community who appreciate that money from fundraising is a vital revenue stream for government schools.

Busted...

Congratulations to this term's Busted Doing Your Banyule Best Board of Famers who enjoyed a special luncheon with the Principals yesterday. These student's have been lucky enough to have their Busted Doing Your Banyule Best slip out of the special Busted Doing Your Banyule Best box that sits under our Busted Doing Your Banyule Best Board of Fame.  Luckily for the kids, getting their mouths around some delicious luncheon delights proved much easier than I'm sure reading the first part of this paragraph was!

Spring has sprung (a freak hailstorm on us!:

Monday's hailstorm caused a bit of excitement, arriving right as we all headed to the gym for assembly. Children were then amazed by what looked like a winter wonderland as they returned to their classrooms. This is was the oval...

Literacy and Numeracy Week:

Once again the Banyule Primary School community didn't disappoint during Literacy and Numeracy Week. From Cat in the Hats to calculators and from Roald Dahl to Rubiks cubes, the enormous effort from children and staff was very much on display during our dress up day. Many thanks must go to parents and carers for not only coming along to our parade in droves, but especially for the hours spent sewing, painting, hot-gluing and constructing kids' outfits!

The Numeracy Scavenger Hunt was a highlight for students, seeing them race around the school to discover the maths in the world around them and our Year 4, 5 & 6 students also enjoyed hearing how award-winning author Tony Wilson comes up with his ideas and brings them to life through his books.

School Saving Bonus

In Term 4, 2024, families with a child enrolled in a government school from Prep to Year 12 in 2025 will receive the one-off $400 School Saving Bonus. The bonus provides families with support for education-related costs, such as school activities and/or school uniforms and textbooks. We have included more information in the reminders section of the Newsletter. At this stage the only thing families need to do is ensure that your contact details are up to date.
