Year 1/2 Cluster News Term 3 Week 9
Term 4 Swimming
Swimming for our cluster will take place in week 8 of next term. An instructor works with a small group of students, however, if your child requires additional support in the water, please advise us of the reasons by Monday 18th of September at 4pm, as the pool requires this information for their planning.
Year 1 Sleepover - Week 1, Term 4
Friday 20th October 4.30pm - Saturday 21st October, 8.30am 2023
Consent forms will be sent home early next week. Please return them by Monday 25th September.
If you would like to volunteer and have completed all volunteer requirements and can assist, please let your classroom teacher know of your expression of interest by Monday 25th September.
Gumboots
The nature play has become muddy with the wet weather and students will need gumboots until the end of the term.
Sunscreen, hats and water bottles
Could you please make sure your child applies sunscreen before coming to school and their hats and drink bottles are in bags. We do provide the Woolworths brand sunscreen and encourage reapplication throughout the day, however, if your child requires a special sunscreen, please bring it labelled in their bag.
Home Inquiry – How the world works: What materials are your toys at home made of and why? Take a photo and bring it in to share with the class.
Read your take home book or library books or home books - Approx. 10 minutes each night. On Monday mornings, Take Home Books are changed over. On Thursdays, both classes visit the Library for borrowing.
Sound of the week - See the weekly sound and spelling list below. Students can practise these in a variety of ways (look, say, cover, write, check, chalk, whiteboard writing, magnetic letters - be creative!) The aim is to practise the words both by writing and orally. Have a go at brainstorming other words that have the same sound. |

Literacy:
In Readers Workshop, students will continue to develop their comprehension strategies according to the needs of each class.
In Writers Workshop, students will continue a study about ‘How authors bring characters to life’.
Spelling
Example word lists consist of revision words, sound of the week words and tricky words.

Maths Focus:
Year 1s will continue to inquire into time durations, including sequence of events using years, months, weeks, days, hours, and Year 2s will inquire into measurement using informal units.
Revision of Mental Computation strategies continues throughout the term. This includes strategies such as counting on, counting back and rainbow facts to 10 or 20.

Central Idea: The properties of materials determine their use
LOI 1: The properties of materials
LOI 2: How materials change
LOI 3: Why certain materials are selected for different jobs
Students will continue to investigate different materials and their physical properties.
