Assistant Principals' Report

Year 7-9 Assistant Principal Report:

Rachel Robertson

Congratulations to all Year 7s for completing 100 days of Year 7! We celebrated this special occasion by dancing (as though no one was watching – No lights, No Lycra!), making bracelets, and completing a 100 activities challenge to help students connect with their peers, identify opportunities for completing random acts of kindness, earn points for their house and above all, have fun! We also hosted an incursion for all Year 7 students called Wired. This performance looked at the impact of cyberbullying on mental health and also helped students understand how to explore and build positive relationships.

It has been a busy week for Year 8s participating in interschool sports – congratulations to all students who participated in Badminton, Hockey, Table Tennis, Hockey and Basketball!

Finally, our Year 9 students were out all week on City Experience completing a range of activities and tasks to support their learning in World of Ideas, Science and Health. Some of the excursions they attended include: The Big Issue (to learn about the role of social enterprise in supporting homeless people), the Immigration Museum (to hear stories about people who have immigrated to Australia) and an Art Walk to explore some of the famous street art in the CBD.

We look forward to seeing students and their families either online (12-4:12pm) or face-to-face (5-7pm) in the upcoming Parent Student Teacher Conferences on Tuesday.

Year 10-12 Assistant Principal Report:

Renee Liprino

A big thank you to all the staff and students who took part in Book Week. An even bigger thank you to Ms. Elizabeth Howe and Ms. Beth Barrass who organised all the events – guest speakers, trivia, Book Character Dress Day. It’s unfortunate that my plan to come as Ms. Trunchbull from Matilda fell through – but I think my face still sufficed.

I was very excited to join the college to show my respect for diversity on Wear it Purple Day. And thank the Administration team for getting us to break out the purple hair ribbons.

In the past few weeks, I have been lucky enough to have been working with the School Captains on their last big college events. This is an exciting time, but also a little sad and can bring out the nerves. I’ve been proud that during this time Melbourne Girls College has had study programs on offer from Elevate and Mental Health Programs for Yr 10 through Melbourne University. This shows that not only does our school have great internal support programs, but the staff go above with organising further activities to give students a greater strategy tool bag.

As we’re coming to the end of the term, I look forward to meeting more of you at Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday the 12th of September. I would like to wish our Aerobics team good luck at the National Championships on the Gold Coast.

I will see many of our Year 12s on the second week of the holidays, as they take part in practice exams.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday (with some VCE study!)
