Careers

It has been a busy and productive term in the Careers space in Term 3!

The Year 12s have been hard at work planning for their futures and have been meeting one-on-one with a member of the Careers Team to research tertiary courses, discuss their pathway options and apply for university study through VTAC and other tertiary admission centres around the country. We are pleased to announce that several of our students have been accepted for early entry into ANU in Canberra which is an amazing achievement!

A reminder to Year 12s that VTAC applications are due on 28th September and SEAS and Scholarship applications are due on 6th October.

The Year 11s were lucky enough to hear from one of MGC’s alumni, Isabelle Silbery from Gogglebox fame, about her study and career journey which was informative and inspiring. Izzy shared her life story and wisdom with the Year 11s and touched on themes of resilience, perseverance and the importance of chasing one’s dreams. The Year 11s asked some very insightful questions about life after school and how to make the most of the opportunities that come their way (as well as a few about how to get on Gogglebox!).

Finally, the Year 10s are preparing for work experience which will happen in Term 4. In their Wellbeing classes they have been researching career opportunities and sourcing a work experience placement. Work experience helps students develop employability skills, explore possible career options, understand employer expectations and increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence. If MGC parents and carers are able to offer a work experience placement to one or more of our students, please let us know (careers@mgc.vic.edu.au). Our students are eager to learn from professionals like you, and your support will make a significant impact on their educational journey.

A reminder that we also send out a weekly MGC Careers newsletter which can be accessed on Compass or on our MGC Careers Website which also has extensive study and careers resources and information available to students and families. Please visit www.careersmgc.com.au.
