This week in Reading we are learning to infer character’s actions and motives.

VOCABULARY

Character Actions: What a character has done.

Character Motives: Why they have done this.

Inferring: Using our prior knowledge and text clues to make an inference (conclude what has happened.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to do a ‘think aloud’ with a picture story book or chapter book.  

Ask them to Identify character’s actions and the impact they have. Then infer the motive behind their actions. 

Discuss what evidence you can see in the book that supports that. Also, the prior knowledge that supports it.
