Student Engagement
Engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus and moves them to more critical thinking. As the term progresses we often see a decline in students' stamina which can make it challenging for students to engage in learning. It is often mentioned that school has to be fun in order to be engaging, but that is not the only form of engagement.
There are many different types of engagement such as:-
Behavioral engagement - Refers to student academic involvement including things such as effort, persistence, attention, asking questions, following rules, and the absence of disruptive behaviors.
Emotional engagement - Refers to the emotion a student chooses to have in relation to their learning such as boredom, sadness, like or dislike.
Cognitive engagement - Refers to student's investment in learning. This includes features such as self-regulation, going beyond requirements, mastering new knowledge or skills, and intrinsic motivation.
When students display high levels of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement, they are more likely to excel academically, be resilient and socially connected. The experts in this area are the students her at LSP, and so they were asked.
