Around the Junior School

Debating

In Week 8, the Junior School debaters travelled to Catherine McAuley Catholic Primary School to compete in the second round of our debating series. The topic was 'Students should be banned from the internet after 6pm'. Kinross had teams representing both sides and came up with some very convincing and well researched arguments. The opposition also had strong cases. Ultimately Kinross Wolaroi Negative team won and Affirmative had a loss. Both teams were given very positive feedback and some pointers to work on in the next debate.

The debating series will continue next term with three debates scheduled against Orange Christian School.

Year 2 Jack Berne: Celebrating Stories, Cultures and Languages

2023 Indigenous Literacy Day

Wednesday 6 September marked Indigenous Literacy Day for 2023, where the nation was encouraged to tune in and celebrate stories, cultures, and languages from remote Communities.

On Wiradjuri Country, Year 2 tuned in and “jumped on a virtual plane to Barunga in the Northern Territory, Rubibi (Broome) in north Western Australia and Weipa on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland” to listen to and learn from local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.

Year 2 were also very lucky to have two of our senior school mentors in Izaak Fogg and Lachlan Fogg visit our class with Mr Taylor for a yarn and to share their stories about Culture and Community. Year 2 appreciated their time and knowledge and look forward to saying ‘yiradhu marang’ (meaning day good or good day in Wiradjuri language) when we see either of the Fogg brothers around the grounds at KWS.
