Our theme for this year

Together with God we can grow in

COURAGE, KINDNESS, CREATIVITY & COMPASSION

11/10/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

Referendum Day Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall

As advised, there will be a Polling Booth in St Kevin’s School Performing Arts Room for the Voice to Parliament Referendum on Saturday October 14th.

On that day our PFA will be conducting a Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall Fundraiser from 8.00am - 2.00pm here at St Kevin’s.

This is a wonderful fundraising opportunity for our school.   It is also a great way to promote our fantastic school in the local community.  Thank you to Suzanne and the volunteers who have already registered. We require a minimum of 15 volunteers to run the BBQ for two hour sessions on the day, in groups of five (8-10am; 10am-12pm; 12-2pm). Please go to this Link Referendum Sausage to register your support or to donate funds or goods. Thank you for supporting this event.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)

Thank you to the 31 families who completed the survey this year. MACSSIS data benefits everyone within our school and provides valuable community insights on areas that we can focus on. We thank you for taking the opportunity to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.

The Year 5/6 Students are the winners of the movie and popcorn time!  We will chat with Miss C, Mrs O’Meara and Ms Sims to organise a date.

Class Groupings for 2024

We are currently in the process of developing our class groupings for 2024. Please contact me in writing with regards any issues that we need to be aware of that may impact on your child’s learning in 2024 - gleone@sktemplestowelr.catholic.edu.au

We also need to know if any students (other than Gr 6’s) will be leaving St Kevin’s at the end of 2023. Thank you to parents who have already contacted me with their intentions.  If your child will not be returning to St Kevin’s in 2024 can you please inform me in writing as soon as possible.

St Kevin’s SUNSMART POLICY

Remember that students and staff need to wear hats whenever outside and sunscreen is to be applied 10 minutes before going out to play.

We had many students without hats this week! Please search at home and send named hats in as soon as you can.

‘The 3 Doors’  Performance

Such excitement in the AIR at St Kevin’s as our performance draws near!

It is an expectation that all students participate in the School performance; working on stage or back stage. The learning and assessment will be part of the Semester Two report in Drama, Music and Dance as well as in the Personal and Social Capability.   This is a very special part of the learning experience at St Kevin’s and the students have rehearsed their individual parts in their classes. We are relying on each student to be part of this experience. Please ensure that your child attends the performance.

It has been delightful watching and speaking to our students about this experience.  We are so proud of them the way they have learnt their lines and are rehearsing to be the best actors, singers and dances.  For some students this is their opportunity to shine, others find it difficult but still persevere and show great resilience.  Cannot wait to see the show!

Thursday will be a normal school day in regards to school hours. Students will arrive at usual time and be picked up as per normal after school on Thursday.  They do need to bring their costumes and props to school.  If your child is going to after school care on Thursday and you would like him/her to go straight to the concert from after school care, please write a note stating this and give a copy to the after school care team and a copy to the class teacher so that the teacher knows to collect your child from after care to prepare for the concert.

Respectful Relationships

Last week our staff were part of a professional learning session for implementing the content of Topic 7: Gender and Identity and Topic 8: Positive Gender Relations, in the Respectful Relationships program. On Monday evening we had a parent information session at school, led by Aimy Skym from the Department of Education.

Aimy explained to our parents why the Respectful Relationships program was developed and how it is implemented in schools. She also gave parents information on some of the activities that the students would be taking part in while reminding us that all activities for these topics are age and stage appropriate.

In Week 4 the staff will begin teaching the content from Topic 7: Gender and Identity. This topic has approximately 5 lessons and then we will move onto Topic 8: Positive Gender Relations which has roughly the same amount of lessons.

The lessons staff follow when teaching these topics are all available online to view. If you would like to view the lessons, please click on the link below, and scroll down to find the relevant year level for your child/ren.
