Message from the School Deputy Principal

Mrs Erin Stone

Dear Families & Friends,

It has been lovely to welcome our students back after the holiday break. The students have settled in very well to term 4 and have come back refreshed and ready to learn.  We have had a busy first two weeks of term, including; a visit from our local MP, Tim Watts, an Electric Circuit incursion, softball division finals and all students engaging in our new approach to Faith Life Inquiry, with an immersion into 'heart spaces': an open ended and thought provoking space to engage the students in their learning. Stay tuned for more information on our Inquiry learning as the term progresses.

We have noticed an increase in students using mobile phones and smart watches when entering the school grounds and going up to their classrooms in the morning. Please support us by having conversations with your child to ensure all students are adhering to our Information and Communication Technology policy. The policy states as follows: Students are NOT permitted to use personal electronic devices at school. These may include (although are not limited to) Smart phones, iPhone, iPod, iPad, netbooks, laptops, chromebooks etc.

We send our prayers and well wishes to Rita McEwen who is recovering from surgery after a fall which resulted in her breaking her ankle. Rita hopes to be back with us before the end of term. We warmly welcome Casual Relief Teacher, Hugh, who will be taking Drama classes in Rita's absence.

It was lovely to welcome Kaylene back today after her time overseas with Cath and Sue. I am sure we will hear more about their wonderful experience over the coming weeks.

Our Year 2 Educator, Vivian, recently shared with staff her experience at the Emerging Leaders Program and World Youth Day. Vivian shared a quote from Pope Francis which is a beautiful reminder for us all when times might be challenging. “The Lord is always by your side - always. Even in the most difficult moments, he is always with us. He never tires of walking with us!”

May we remember to be kind to ourselves, and each other.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Erin Stone

Deputy Principal

School Uniforms and Hats

In a Catholic school, the importance of school uniforms is often tied to the values, principles, and mission of the Catholic faith and the same can be said of our Sacred Heart school uniform.

At Sacred Heart Primary School, our school uniform also serves to foster a sense of community and belonging. It contributes to a sense of unity among students, parents, and staff by creating a shared identity and a common visual symbol of the school's Catholic mission and values. When out in public, either on excursion or before and after school, our Sacred Heart school uniform can serve as a witness to the broader community, reflecting the school's commitment to fostering character development, academic excellence, and a faith-filled life.

It is an expectation that students are now wearing hats during recess and lunch time and when requested for PE lessons. We have a NO HAT NO PLAY policy to ensure our students are protected from the weather in the warmer months.

It is a school wide expectation that all students are wearing full school uniform at all times, unless there is a special event or it has been otherwise communicated. We appreciate your support in this matter.

Prep Transition Program

At Sacred Heart Primary School, we believe in the importance of building a strong connection between school and families before your child starts school. The Prep Transition Program is designed to enable children to get to know their new teachers and learn about the school environment before the start of the school year and for parents & carers to have an opportunity to ask questions, establish friendships and learn more about your child’s school.  We look forward to welcoming our 2024 Preps throughout November.

The transition program will be held on the following dates:

Session One: Thursday 9th November, 9.15am - 10.15am

Session Two: Tuesday 14th November, 9:15am - 10:15am

Session Three: Wednesday 22nd November, 9:15am - 10:15am

Playground and Deck Update

We are very pleased with the progress of our newly landscaped garden area, yarning circle, sandpit and deck.

A yarning circle is traditionally a place to talk, share, discuss, educate and have a yarn together, a place to build respectful relationships and a space to enrich students' learning experiences. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been using yarning circles for thousands of years. We can't wait to see this space being used by our students and educators.

Trivia Night

There are only 15 tickets left for the Sacred Heart Trivia Night being held on Friday 20th October. It is set to be a wonderful night of fun, trivia, banter and some amazing auction and raffle ticket items items!

Rocking the G!

Isabella Agius (4KR) participated in the KISS performance at the MCG on Grand Final Day!

What an amazing opportunity for Isabella. We love to celebrate the success of our students in all aspects of their life. Thanks for sharing this special photo with us Isabella.
