Whooping cough information
Cases of Whooping Cough have been reported in the local government area, but none at our school community currently.
When a school is made aware of a medically confirmed case of whooping cough, this is reported to the Department of Education Incident Support and Operations Centre –the school would then alert the wider school community of confirmed cases and recommended actions.
Primary schools must not allow a child with whooping cough to attend the school. They will be excluded from school for 21 days. Contacts aged less than 7 years who are in the same classroom as a confirmed whooping cough case, and have not received three doses of pertussis vaccine, should also be excluded in accordance with the Department of Health’s School Exclusion table.
