Spotlight on the Classroom

YR 3-6 NAMOI COTTON GIN EXCURSION

On Wednesday, April 10th, our primary students took part in an excursion to the Boggabri, Namoi Cotton Gin. This experience aligned with the Science unit, where we have been looking at where food and fibre come from. We left school after students finished presenting their research on how cotton is grown. Mrs Roseby kindly drove the bus to and from the Gin while Mrs Mitchell and Miss Langfield accompanied the students on the excursion. Jacob Booby, from Namoi Cotton, was our guide throughout the Gin, and students were able to see how cotton transforms from the bale (or, as Grace pointed out, module) to a useable fibre that can be sent all around the world. The children asked many questions and showcased their knowledge of how cotton is grown and picked. All in all, we all had a fantastic time learning how cotton is ginned.
