Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 2

Anzac Day Service

Thank you to our School Leaders, Wendy W, Oscar S, Saumya V and Ava M, for leading the school in the Anzac Day memorial service. Students gathered together at 9:10am in the hall facing our flags. The Faciliies Team of Fadel H and Jeffrey Z, with the support of Ryan R, dutifully tended to the flags during the service. The Senior Choir did an incredible rendition of 'In the Silence' lead by Natalie Palmer. Our SRC students presented flowers to the base of the flag poles. Thank you to the parents who took time out of their day to attend.

Colour Fun Run Update

And that's a wrap!  Congratulations to Hamish and all staff for the most amazing Colour Run. From setting up the course to mixing slime and then the engagement and enthusiasm from everyone to encourage and make the event such a success. So many positive comments from families and huge thank you to all of our parents that helped set up, stayed to spary colour and came along to cheer their children on.  Either scan the QR code below or visit australianfundraising.com.au

PRINCIPAL CONFERENCE

This week, I attended the annual Principal Conference at Cape Schanck along with Erin and Mr. Shaw. The conference consisted of two days of professional learning, teamwork, strategic planning, and networking amongst Principals and Assistant Principals of the Inner East Network. Pasi Sahlberg, Finnish educator, leader and professor at the University of Melbourne, gave an engaging and thought-provoking presentation on leading boldly in the contemporary educational landscape. Simone and Kendra from the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership presented the Academy Leadership Excellence Framework and facilitated a workshop on open-mindedness, perseverance, empathy and interpersonal courage. The conference came to a close with an uplifting presentation by journalist, AFL umpire and motivational speaker Chelsea Roffey, who spoke of her leadership journey as a young woman and pioneer in her field. I thank Leading Teacher Ros Walker, who acted as Principal in my absence, and all of our incredible staff at MPRPS for making it possible for us to attend this important event.

Staffing Update

I take this opportunity to wish Jess Hirvonen and her husband Callum all the very best as Jess takes family leave from today. We hope they will enjoy some time together before the safe arrival of their baby boy.

CURRICULUM DAY

Today marked an important milestone for our school as we embarked upon our journey with the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM).  BSEM equips schools with practical, classroom-based strategies to increase the engagement of all students, including those with complex, unmet learning needs. Operating since 1877 and backed by research, BSEM provides education resources, family support, and programs to more than 35,000 children, young people and families each year.

Over the next 12 months our school and kinder staff will complete four days of training with BSEM, giving us a greater understanding of the five domains of Body, Relationship, Stamina, Engagement and Character.
