Sports Academy Update

We have had a massive start to Term 2, with nutritional appointments now being completed - I hope these have been really beneficial. Most feedback from Danielle (Standout Nutrition) was about the need to be eating more complex carbohydrates and proteins, especially as they grow.

All of our AFL teams have been out in the first few weeks, with some extremely impressive results. The Year 7 boys team won all of their games comfortably. The Year 8 boys team showed a massive improvement from last year, where they beat Marist Sion College 40-3 in the final. Last year the result was almost reversed.

The Junior Girls won 2 out of 3 games falling to Marist Sion College in their first game before improving as the day went on, with some nice wins against Drouin Secondary College and Warragul Regional College. The Intermediate Girls won all 3 games comfortably with some great performances, and the Intermediate Boys won their first 2 games comfortably before having one of the better games I have seen in the final against Marist Sion College. The boys played great football in the crucial moments to win by 8 points. The Senior Boys unfortunately lost 2 of their games - we had a number of unavailable players due to injury. The Senior Girls had a win for the ages, playing with 14 and 2 goals down at half time before coming back and winning in the final minutes. We look forward to seeing the teams at the Gippsland Finals in the next 2 weeks.

In our classes, students have been training hard for their sports (it is a reward seeing them play well against other schools) and particularly the Year 8 classes working well in their strength and conditioning.

We are looking forward to hosting a guest speaker for sports psychology at the end of the month, where students will be sure to gain some insights.
