Wellbeing & Learning Diversity
In August each year, schools across Australia are required to complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD.) The NCCD counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or support at school and helps governments plan for the needs of students with disability. Our Nurture Growth NCCD Team, submits our student data based on evidence and rigorous moderation. For further information, please see the linked flyer.
The importance of sleep
When your child sleeps well, your child will be settled, happy and ready for school the next day. That’s because good-quality sleep helps your child concentrate, remember things, manage emotions and behave well. This all helps your child learn well.
How much?
At 5-11 years, children need 9-11 hours of sleep a night. For example, if your child wakes for school at 7 am and needs approximately 10 hours sleep per night, your child should be in bed before 9 pm.
How to help children sleep well?
- A bedtime routine is very important at this age. THINK: shower, pyjamas, teeth, toilet, story or chat and then lights out
- Relaxing before bed. THINK: screen free time, reading, relaxing music or a warm bath
- Good daytime and night-time habits for sleep. THINK: regular sleep times, screens off an hour before bed, plenty of natural light during the day
