Term 2, Week 5
The last two weeks here at SJV have been busy as usual with the beginning of the Stomp program, Anzac Day Service and the SJV school Cross Country event.
It is important to note that next week we have a number of events taking place such as the First Eucharist Family Workshop @ 7pm on (Year 3 students), whole school Mass, Mother's Day Stall and the amazing Mother's Day breakfast. Please make sure that you read all correspondence regarding these important events.
Also, please take the time to read further below information regarding a working Bee that will take place on Saturday the 18th of May.
In the meantime, it has been an amazing start to the term with so much teaching and learning taking place.
We hope your experience with St John Vianney's Primary School Parkdale has been positive and enriching. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts and experiences by leaving us a Google business review. Your feedback not only helps us continue to improve and grow but also assists other families in making informed decisions about their children's education. Thank you for taking the time to support our school community!

The SJV community remember the fallen and the sacrifices made by those who served our country. Thank you to all of our students who represented SJV last Thursday at the Mentone RSL ANZAC Commemorative March and Service.
Last Wednesday we came together to remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve our nation. Thank you to our Year 6 Social Justice Leaders for leading this beautiful Service. Lest we forget.
The Mother’s Day Breakfast will take place on Friday the 10th of May 7.30am -8.30am. We will also have a Mother’s Day assembly which will begin at 3.15pm in the MPR. We would love to see as many mums there. Please make sure that you read the Mother's Day page of the newsletter for further details.
If any dads are able to assist on the day, please let the office know or contact Jess Viviani the President of the PFA.
The Mother’s day stall will take place on Thursday the 9th of May after Mass has concluded.
Dads make sure that you give your child $5 to buy a gift for mum at the Mother’s Day Stall!!

On Friday the 19th of April we held our annual SJV Cross Country Event. I would like to congratulate all of the students for their participation and support of each other. Special thanks to Mrs McAllister for her wonderful organisation of the event and to the many parents who attended and the staff who assisted with the set up and pack up. Congratulations to Blue House who were the overall winners on the day.
Like many schools, Working Bees are held throughout the year. This is where we ask our families to commit and assist with the Working Bee completing basic gardening and maintenance tasks. Steve Kelly (Father of Thea in Prep OH) has kindly taken on the role as the SJV Working Bee Coordinator for 2024. Steve and I have met and discussed what jobs need to be completed around the school.
The Working Bees will take place on the following dates for the remainder of the school year:
Our first Working Bee will take place on Saturday the 18th of May and we are asking for parental assistance. If you could please click on the following form link below and enter your details if you are attending, that would be greatly appreciated.
Form link: https://forms.gle/io7BECfYbfq9L8yJ6
Children are more than welcome to come and assist but please note, there will be no access to the school buildings other than the PFA and maintenance sheds. A sausage sizzle will also be provided at the end of the Working Bee. If any parent would like to coordinate the sausage sizzle please contact Steve Kelly or the school office.
Can we also please ask that if you are able to attend that you could bring either pruning tools, shovel, rakes and a wheelbarrow or two that could be used.
I would like to thank Steve Kelly for taking on the responsibility of coordinating our Working Bees throughout the year.
If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved. The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually (excluding two crazy Covid years) and is the most wonderful community event.
As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after. All families need to be involved to make this a successful event. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for the fete, please contact either Nathan Viviani (Fete Coordinator) or the school office.
Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.
We have our first Fete Meeting on Monday the 13th of May at 7.30pm in the staff room. All parents are invited to attend
Our Requests for School Tours are continuing with many booking times to come and visit our wonderful school! Enrolments for Prep 2025 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office or scanning the QR code and booking online. If you are not able to make these tours please note that you are also welcome to call to make a time that does work for you. A reminder that the due date for Enrolment Applications is Monday the 6th of May. We have been delighted with the highly encouraging response to the 2025 enrolment application process.
If you are new to the school this year or your circumstances have changed and you now hold a valid means tested concession card, please call into the office this week to collect an application form for CSEF. Applications will be processed Friday 10th May. Thank you
From this week onwards ALL student must be in FULL WINTER UNIFORM.
I am asking for everyone's assistance please. I have received a number of complaints at the re-commencement of term regarding some drivers not complying with parking restrictions and perhaps more concerning the “no entry” signs on Brisbane Terrace.
This is a massive safety issue and we need to ensure that ALL parents/grandparents are following these rules especially during drop off and pick up times.
While it is frustrating at the moment due to the lack of car parking spaces due to the works taking place at the community center, I would appreciate it that parents are patient and respectful with one another when parking during drop off and pick up times. Please ensure that if there are any issues or concerns that parents deal with it in an appropriate manner.
The Stomp program continues next Tuesday. All students are to wear their sports uniform on this day.
Please make sure that you take the time to read the following information regarding the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) On School Students with Disability.
