As part of the SEAD program in Term 1, Year 12 students welcomed old scholar Caterina Ricci as a guest speaker on the topic of "Coping with year 12". Caterina is the eldest sister of current Year 12 student, Lorena Ricci. Caterina is currently in her final year of nursing at University. She was a fantastic presenter to the students and was able to target issues such as productive study habits, bonding as a cohort, maturity and focusing on yourself and individual "whys" and goals. Caterina started an initiative where all students wrote down a positive or encouraging affirmation on a sticky note, and we put all of these in a glass jar, in the year 12 Study Hub. When students feel as though they might need some extra encouragement, they can get a sticky note out of the jar and read an inspiring note from another in their cohort. This will be an initiative we continue throughout the year. During Term 1, Year 12s also passed these affirmations out to other year levels who might have needed some extra encouragement as well. Thank you for coming, Caterina, the year 12s loved this presentation!

On Tuesday Boarders Assembly was run by Head Boarders Bree North and Alice Tiver. Boarding leadership, including Nykita Miller, Maggie Shanahan, Regan Clark, Shontayah McIlwraith and Lucy Daniel helped lead the assembly and spoke to the school about activities in the house and boarding life.
Three of our Boarders, Fiona Chung from Hong Kong, Marissa Clark from Bordertown and Matilda Cummins from Lock, also shared about their homes and what a difference it has been to come to Loreto College in Adelaide. The assembly was finished off with a beautiful video made up of pictures from all the girls' hometowns. Thank you, girls, for sharing with us your experiences as Boarders. We can't wait to enjoy and share Boarders' week with the rest of the school in week 3!
In the last lesson of Term 1, the Year 7 Italian and French classes battled it out in Loreto’s first ever Eurovision Contest. Prof. Ruggiero’s and Prof. Blandford’s Italian classes revisited a 1981 classic by Romina Power – Il Ballo Del Qua Qua (the Duck/Chicken Dance), complete with handmade duck bills. Monsieur Houston’s fearless French class performed a compilation of L’Alphabet Français, Les Jours de la Semaine et Le Soleil et la Pluie, donning homemade baguettes.
Well done to the Year 7 Italian and French classes who worked enthusiastically to learn the lyrics in Italian and/or French, as well as choreography, led by the students. They collaborated with their classmates in true Loreto spirit to create a fun and energetic way to learn language and connect with Italian and French culture.
Special thanks to our Eurovision judges, Ms Staley and Ms Warrender for their time and good humour.
The Term 1 Eurovision Title went to ITALY.
However, stay tuned for the next exciting Eurovision instalment when France battles to re-claim the title.
A presto! À bientôt!
Prof. Ruggiero, Prof Blandford, Monsieur Houston
