From the Principal

Welcome to Term 2

'In the footsteps of Mary Ward' pilgrimage

It is with immense gratitude for this enriching experience that I commence Term 2. Together with 22 other leaders from Loreto schools, Loreto Ministries and Mary Ward International, 15 days of education about the life and times of Mary Ward was experienced.

Starting in York, then London, St Omer, Liege, Munich and concluding Rome. What became apparent very early into this experience was the steadfast determination and deep faith of Mary Ward; determined to provide a way for young people of the time to know God. I continue to be of the firm opinion that her messages and teaching are as relevant today as they were 400 years ago.

I acknowledge and sincerely thank Ms Emma Searle for her leadership of the College in my absence. I now look forward with great anticipation to share this experience with the students and staff.

Boarders' Week

Next week we celebrate Boarders' Week and as I explained to the Senior School students at their recent assembly, this is a time to honour the vibrant tapestry of experiences and connections within this element of the College.

Boarding schools serve a unique purpose in shaping the lives of young individuals. A boarding opportunity provides not only education but a nurturing environment where students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, grow, and form lasting bonds. For many, the boarding school experience becomes synonymous with a second home, a place where friendships are forged, and memories are etched into the very fabric of our beings.

Yet, let us not overlook the challenges that accompany this journey. Homesickness, a natural emotion for those away from the familiarity of their family, is a hurdle many of us encounter. It serves as a poignant reminder of the love and warmth of our homes, but it also cultivates strength within us. It teaches us to navigate through the stormy seas of longing and find solace in the supportive embrace of our boarding community.

Indeed, it is this sense of community that forms the cornerstone of our boarding house. Within these hallowed halls, of Karrawood and Reid Houses the students forge connections that transcend the boundaries of distance and time. Forming not just classmates, but a second family, a collective of individuals who uplift and support one another through life's myriad challenges and triumphs.

I thank and acknowledge in a special way our boarding students, for embodying the spirit of camaraderie and resilience that defines our boarding community. I acknowledge the boarding staff too, for their unfailing care of the students, their willingness to go the extra step and support the students unconditionally.

Let us celebrate Boarders' Week next week with a renewed sense of gratitude for the bonds that unite us and a shared commitment to fostering a nurturing environment where all can thrive.

Best wishes to all for the term ahead and I look forward to seeing you at the many events throughout the term and certainly at our premiere event, the Golden Gala.
