Over the last few weeks, the VET Community Services class has enjoyed a number of speakers from the community. Students attended the sessions, asked questions and wrote reflections in their VET Student Portfolios:
Detective Sergeant of the Police Department Lara Murray came to our school to inform and explain what they do on a day-to-day basis, such as dealing with people with issues, and the problems we face in the society, and the Dandenong community. I enjoyed learning about how you can’t post inappropriate pictures of people online, and that it could result in people going behind bars. This gave me a proper insight on what the roles and responsibilities in the police department.

We had a Council visit from the City of Greater Dandenong Youth Services on 17/4. We had a discussion about different communities and about the services that they provide. We also did a little quiz about the City of Greater Dandenong and did an activity in which we made something related to communities with clay. We learned about many different things which includes how many people live in the City of Greater Dandenong, how many people speak different languages besides English at their home and we learned about the levels of government. The experience was good and we enjoyed that. We had a discussion about communities in more detail and how a person as an individual can contribute to the community. They told us about their services, responsibilities and about their job which is helping youth and families who are going through stress or want to talk about something. They also provide support, services and programs for young people aged 12-25 who live, work, study or have connection with City of Greater Dandenong.
